Sounds like curtains for Che Diaz, the most divisive love interest on And Just Like That…
Sara Ramirez and Sarah Jessica Parker Sara Ramirez and Sarah Jessica Parker:

Few television characters have rocketed into the zeitgeist like Che Diaz. The non-binary lesiban comedian played by Grey’s Anatomy’s Sara Ramirez shook everything up on the Sex And The City spin-off And Just Like That…, becoming the most divisive and talked-about addition to the beloved, well-established cast. Che Diaz’s comedy wasn’t funny; Che Diaz’s social justice warrior persona was obnoxious. Che Diaz ruined Miranda’s (Cynthia Nixon) marriage and the entire show. Che Diaz is no more. Long live Che Diaz.

While the news of their departure hasn’t been officially confirmed by Max, Ramirez hinted at the exit on their Instagram page in a political post. “Our industry is so duplicitous. While they give awards away, casting directors and agents are making blacklists of actors and workers who post anything in support of Palestinians in Gaza to ensure they will not work again. While they lift up some of their own clients who have spoken up against this genocide, they are firing and letting others who have smaller platforms go,” Ramirez wrote in part after the Emmy awards. “It’s wild how performative so many in Hollywood are. Even more performative than the last character I played.”

Ramirez’s post caused a stir online less so for the pro-Palestinian message and more at the implication they were no longer playing the character of Che Diaz. (“Don’t let the tabloids distract you from what’s happening in Gaza. Really nice try, though,” Ramirez added after their post got picked up by several media outlets.) Some surmised from the post that Ramirez’s support for Palestine was the reason they were no longer part of And Just Like That…. Sure, Cynthia Nixon has also publicly voiced support for Palestine, but Nixon is one of the core cast members of the show and has relatively more power in the industry than Ramirez—who is perhaps positioning themselves as one of the actors with “smaller platforms” being fired.

But a source for The Daily Mail tells a different story, suggesting Che Diaz was written out for simply being Che Diaz. “Sara was not fired because they support Palestine and the cease fire. Sara was fired because Che brought nothing to the show anymore. They were on the chopping block since last season,” this source said. “After Che split with Miranda, the character really held no value anymore and fans found them annoying. The storyline as a struggling comedian was a waste of airtime and Sara knew it.” Even meaner: “Sara needs to accept that this is not Grey’s Anatomy, and her character was not a pivotal part of the storyline.”

Granted, Che was a pivotal part of And Just Like That… discourse over the course of the revival’s two seasons. And while Ramirez may now view Che as “performative,” they previously told The New York Times that they were “really proud of the representation that we’ve created. We have built a character who is a human being, who is imperfect, who’s complex, who is not here to be liked, who’s not here for anybody’s approval. They’re here to be themselves.” That said, Ramirez also stressed that “I’m also not in control of the writing,” and they aren’t actually Che Diaz. Now, it seems, nobody is.
